To me, all the productivity advice out there assumes my brain is already wired for linear paths. It targets neurotypical people with support systems who can follow linear paths without friction. Building tools that work for everyone else first is a political choice.
Hidden Barriers in Workflow Design
Productivity systems frequently require high levels of executive function just to get started. They demand that you organize, prioritize, and categorize before you even touch the work. For a brain that struggles with these specific transitions, those requirements are structural barriers.
When a tool is built for a standard user, it ignores the reality of energy fluctuations. If a system requires a high mental load to operate, it remains inaccessible to anyone whose energy is already spent. This design choice favors those who already have the resources to navigate complex setups.

We should view productivity through the lens of accessibility. Tools that only function for neurotypical users fail to solve the problem of work. They merely cater to a specific audience while leaving everyone else behind.
